I lived in Brooklyn for a few years, well I lived in 7 places in 3 years, but 90% of those places were in Brooklyn. (That first time New York City struggle is real). That being said, I loved living in Brooklyn. I loved the energy, the music scene, the nightlife, the parks, the people, the energy. I think you get it, Brooklyn was my place up there. Although there are a lot of super awesome, unique, lesser known things to do all over Brooklyn, one thing that I always loved to make it to was Smorgasburg.
Located at the East River State Park, 90 Kent Ave. (at North 7th Street). Smorgasburg is right on the East River, with plenty of space and picnic tables to enjoy your snacks. And yes, there is of course alcohol. Unfortunately, in order to keep things legal, you have to stay in a little fenced off area to drink. (womp womp) So go grab an assortment of treats and bring em over to the adults only area to enjoy a beverage.
Now as you know, I love festivals, markets, gatherings of any kind- and this is a GOOD one. Not only are there tons a of food tents, but these are New York City food tents. A city where some of the most talented chefs in the world migrate to create nothing less than the best culinary experience possible. There are so many amazing things to try at this market and you get to do it all with a perfect view of the Manhattan skyline.
Now you will hear mixed opinions about Smorgasburg from Brooklynites as it can be seen as touristy and brings unwanted crowds to the borough. But in my opinion, its a fun Saturday event where you get to try some new food and take in a little culinary culture.
Smorgasburg Williamsburg is the main event and is closed for winter, it reopens in April. In the meantime you can check out Winter Smorgasburg at Brooklyn Flea, 625 Atlantic Ave (across from Barclay’s Center). As well as a couple special Night Markets you can check out here. Also if you live in LA, Smorgasburg is on Sunday’s year round at ROW DTLA, 787 S Alameda St.
Thanks for checking out my photo story and be sure to get to Smorgasburg on your next NYC visit. You’ll love it.
P.S. one more awesome NYC food suggestion, the best pork bun in the city, here.
xx,
Hannah
